What are your relaxing, after work, winter activities?
« on: February 22, 2014, 10:14:17 AM »
We don't have cable but we do have netflix and hulu.  The new england winter is depressing to me.  When we get home from work in the winter we seem to do some light chores, make dinner, then park our butts on the couch and watch tv/surf the internet.  The constant screen time (computer at work) is not good!

I have starting doing some jigsaw puzzles (which the cats love) and reading but what do you do for a relaxing activity after work?
In the summer I garden and just enjoy being outside.  Some people love winter but I am not one of them!

In the winter (Iowa here) I tend to do a lot more internet research. Basically anything that catches my fancy. I try to read some books. We do catch up on shows that we don't watch when it's warm. I prefer being outside, but not when it's cold! We do work out at home, intense cardio (think P90x or Insanity) . My garage is heated and I have some nice, large rubber mats for the floor. We try to have friends over on the weekends and play cards or other games.

I live in a cold climate, where the winters are very long. People here do some organized activities in winter, like volleyball or joining a book club. I bundle up and go for walks. If you can't stand going outside, then having some projects underway. Learn to play a musical instrument or a language. Cook some meals for the freezer. Call friends and family who'd love to hear from you. Plan your garden. Plant some seeds. Grow indoor plants. Make things. Train your cat.

I find I don't have a lot of energy in the evening to get projects started, so I get them started on weekends and keep going with them on weekdays.

Have fun!

Recently I've been actively taking steps to execute on a side business idea - it's been a lot of fun, but it *does* keep me on the computer longer each day.

Crafts, sewing, and playing cards or games are a few of the things I enjoy when stuck inside on cold winter nights.

Another New Englander here.  This winter has been brutal.  I knit and watch TV, then read a bit in bed and go to sleep early so that I can get up early the next day and go to the gym ;-)

I spend alot of time doing research on the internet mostly financial based. Go to the gym bit more than usual and watch TV but with 4 kids in sports I do alot of running around as well and get my social stimulation :-) from that!

Snowshoeing is also fun, does not cost much once you buy the snowshoes, does not require any skill and is great exercise.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
