What are your favorite MMM forum journals?
« on: July 18, 2018, 04:01:39 PM »
I've read a number of times from some of the OG forum inhabitants that the journals are their favorite part of the forum, but I've never quite gotten into them.

So, if you're a journal dweller, what are your favorite journals and why?

It's cool to see other people's perspectives. Many people don't know other Mustachians in real life, so reading about their lives here is pretty neat.

Current favorite: https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/journals/beer-brazilian-jiu-jitsu-bicycles-and-big-next-steps/

Mostly because him and I share a lot of hobbies and ways of doing things, with subtle differences spattered throughout.

I just started mine if you want to take a peek: https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/journals/bayou-dweller's-hardcore-mustachian-journey-spend-less-live-more-(tx)/

Do you have one, OP?

I spend a lot of my time in the journals. I found ones I liked by doing a lot of browsing. I would see someone making posts in the general forum that I admired, see a journal link in their sig, and then follow them there; I'd then see more people making great posts in their journal, follow up on THEIR journals, and so on. There's also some journals I honed in just because I was browsing the journals section and found them. What you like in the journals section depends a lot on what you want out of it; I love the community, the insight into other's lives, and the wide variety of ways in which people make financial independence work, and work for them.

Journals can be very very different depending on whose journal it is. I love maizeman and omachi's journals for discussion of financial stuff(TM) and work-life balance; I love tardis, Orvell, and Salim's journals to get glimpses into an artist's life; I love Snacky and meadow lark and MonkeyJenga and UnleashHell's journals because they provide these beautiful sort of "free for all" spaces where people have all sorts of discussions. And that's really just the tip of the iceberg.
