What's on your Mustachian to-do list for today?

Here's mine:
* Repot the kale and brussels sprouts seedlings
* Stay out of the drive-through (!)
* See if the combined power of hedonic adaption and wooden shutters can save us from turning on the AC today.

Eat delicious healthy home-cooked food.
Drive home in my big old rumbly 1992 Buick.
Cook additional delicious healthy home-cooked food to replaced depleted supply.
Feed dogs home-made raw dog food.
Lift weights at home.
Eat more delicious healthy home-cooked food.
Cut grass with reel mower.
Play bookkeeper for my GF's business and get her spreadsheets up to date.
Floss teeth with $100 bills.
Swim in pool of cold coins.

1. Bathe the dog.  (He really needs to go to the groomer for a trim but I'm stretching that farther & farther out, just bathing him at home in-between)

2. Open Roth IRA for my son!  He's got $1k ready to deposit.

3. Fund a new bank account for bonus $$.

Plant as many of the 50 cent perreniels I picked up off the close out table yesterday as I can.

Spend the hottest part of the day in the basement where it is nice and cool.  I'll catch up on some reading and maybe take a nap while I wait for it to cool down outside.

Eat leftovers for supper again when I really want to drive to town and get a sandwich.

Water tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, basil, and kale (all from seed this year).

Make more bread since we're nearly out.

Tie up some tomatoes with strips of old worn-out socks (spiral cut to get long strips).

That's about it - been a lazy day today. Not cooking any homemade meals because I ate peanut butter toast for supper - that kind of day.

This is at the top of my list every single day. Thank you for reminding me I haven't yet done it. I'll get on it right away.

- Mow the lawn,  no more yard service

- List some more things on eBay

- Turn on the box fan. I live in MA. For the few very hot days we have a year air conditioners seem like a waste. Still have one in the closet but it hasn't come out in more than 10 years.

Yesterday my daughter and I picked 2 bowls full of blackberries from the bushes by the park.

Today I made a google drive document that has our family's master information for insurance/accounts/etc so that if one us gets hit by a bus we'll have it in the cloud.

Go to library to pick up books I ordered.

Eat potluck lunch at work.

(1)  Read up about the options for what to do with my 401(k) and Roth 401(k) now that I've recently left my job.  Shall I keep the funds where they are, or roll them over to my TIRA and Roth IRA accounts with Vanguard?  Probably the latter.  (2)  Execute on that decision.

Also, water my plants, read my library book, and cook a healthy dinner at home.

Today:
Made lunch and baked a cake for us and my visiting parents to eat (no 100€ restaurant bill!). Lunch was a budget bytes recipe and maybe 10€ for the 4 of us, and everyone loved it.

Thank my parents so much for bringing me awesome birthday presents like wooden art made by my father, a lovely cup filled with chocolates and several bottles of wine (we drink maybe 2-3 bottles per month and never buy any because we get so many as gifts from everyone all the time) :D

Packed lunch for tomorrow (salad with leftover chicken)

Made meal plan and grocery shopping list for next week

* Will hit the .01 sale at Office Depot to pick up index cards and $5 box of the sheet protectors we use for the kids' school portfolios.
* Want to see if Dollar Tree has popsicle sticks. Need to resupply; we recently invested in popsicle molds and the kids love them as an alternative to frozen yogurt runs on a hot day.
* Going to visit Aldi for the first time ever. One just opened 20 minutes from our house. Wish me luck.

Not a farrier.  I keep my horses barefoot and learned to trim them myself via books/dvds/internet with some oversight from my vet and a pro hoof trimmer.  Turns out most farriers suck at trimming, and they're more blacksmiths.

* Sit in shady part of backyard to stay out of sweltering house. Watch butterflies attracted to our edible garden: monarchs, swallowtails, fritillaries, painted ladies, sulfurs, mourning cloaks, skippers, gray hairstreaks, plus bonus hummingbirds, dragonflies, green fig beetles, honeybees.

* Later: Continue decluttering garage.

- finish 2 side jobs = extra cash
- stay home! This has been a big one lately, if we don't go out we are less tempted to spend money.
- hang wall pictures
- deep clean house
- maintenance mower
- eat all meals at home
- watch rented movies (free) from the library

I only had two things today: Pick one subscription service to keep and cancel all of the rest and look for/brainstorm ideas for a side hustle.

Did both fairly quickly today. I only let myself keep Spotify Premium and even that's conditional -- emailing them to see if I can get my student discount back. If not, they'll have to go. (I know, I know, spending money on frivolous things is not a way to save it but I walk 30 minutes to work everyday. I'd rather not do that without music.)

I'm still thinking of a way to bring in extra money on the side. I submitted a few proposals on UpWork but other than that, I have no idea. I'm generally not good at anything that could be considered marketable -- except for cooking. I have a friend that pays me $25/month to compile weekly meal plans (complete with grocery lists and recipes) for him but he only pays me for it to be nice so I'm still trying to think of things to market to others. If I had a car I'd go for babysitting, errand running or a pet walking business.

August Civic Holiday Weekend in Canada:

I'm having a No Spend weekend other than a few veggies at the market (Saturday)
Took the free bus to close-the-street-to-cars day downtown (and back).. walked up and down.. left my wallet and all money/cards at home.
Dying to go out for steak tonight (Sunday).. (locals get $10.00 on the feature each night here at a restaurant in town) but I'm not going... heating up a single serving of lasagna instead
Rode my bike 4.5 km each way to swim some lengths at the local pool at noon today (Sunday)
It's 80F outside and as MMM has said "What do you have the AC on when its only 80F outside?" so I've had AC turned off all day and opened the windows.
Took a 3 pound $3.00 whole chicken out of the freezer this morning for supper tonight (Monday)

*thankful to MMM, the Minimalists and others for helping me to adopt this way of life and sticking with it for about 7 months now...

Put in an order for bulk nuts, seeds and spices with the online place that's much cheaper than the supermarket.

If I get home while it's still light out, work on digging some blood and bone into my garden bed in preparation for my spring planting.

Contact various nurseries about availability of avocado trees.

Today I'm going to make a batch of beet jelly, peel the 10 lbs of potatoes I baked yesterday, and plan meals for the next couple of weeks using those potatoes.  Once it cools off I'll work on replacing the flower bed edging with the stuff I got at the end of last summer that was on clearance.  I don't have enough for all the flower beds but I can get a good chunk of it done.

Start some more seeds germinating for summer food production.

Assist brother and father in pulling unwanted plants from my garden to transfer to brother's.

Bake bread, soak dried beans, make carrot soup.

Unmould the soap I made with a friend yesterday (cold process) and set it out to cure.

Keep working on a crocheted rug for a baby present for a loved one.

Today I spoiled myself, by going to a new place where I ordered a mushroom bacon burger. THEN I bought a doughnut for dessert. I paid my son's way too. I felt like celebrating.

I was celebrating because the insurance company is going to totally replace our roof and gutters, and also a garden shed, due to hail damage. We will only owe our $1500 deductable.

Before that I indulged in my hobby of gardening, and I picked 7 cucumbers and a quart of green beans.

It is fun to be frugal!

Make baked pasta and cornbread for meals later in the week when there's no time to cook.

Tie up my tomatoes, again.

Come up with something to do with a cucumber that needs picked given I have no greens for salad and husband won't eat cucumber and tomato salad but really loves cucumber.

Harvest and dry some more stevia, and try out some blackberry-sassafras tea sweetened with it (husband's idea for what to do with all my blackberry tea given no rose hips to speak of this year because of the drought).

While I'm at it, dry some orange peel. And eat an orange.

Help husband with some grad school and assistant ship applications.

Um. Continue leaving the investments alone to grow?

Ideally, see what tomatoes are salvageable-lots of bottom rot this year.

Raw carrot shavings & cucumber salad with a Vietnamese inspired dressing?  (fish sauce, soy, lime, sugar, hot sauce or chilies, optional cashews on top)
Or a traditional cucumber salad with yogurt and toasted almonds on top?

Do my first practical solder job on my light fixture that quit working 4 years ago.
Yeah no light in my bedroom for 4 years. Finally took it apart last month, figured out the problem, then got the pico fuse last week and finally debating on actually fixing it.

I honestly think it is just a waste of power to fix it, and i will use MORE power once it works again haha

Oooh to the first one! That I bet he'd eat! (Not the yogurt sauce on the second, silly man). What's more, I have everything on hand, with the possible exception of cashews, but I have either cashews or almonds in the cabinet, so it can get one or the other. Thank you - it's a struggle getting vegetables into that man. (And I've taken it on because longevity runs in my family and I want him around...)

Food prep to make the next few days easier. Homemade sushi for lunch :-)

Researching fruit trees yet again (always something new to learn).

Mending, including a few things for Mr Happier to make his day - everybody loves coming home from work to surprise domestic 'gifts' from their spouse, right?

Working on a crochet baby blanket which will be a gift.

And general domestic stuff, like laundry.
