Title: Using Travel insurance instead of Short-term Insurance or ACA
Post by: toucansurfer on February 26, 2018, 04:23:34 PM
Hi Guys,

So i've been living in Australia and i'm a dual citizen now of Australia and the USA.  My family wants to move back to the USA to be closer to relatives but the health insurance is freaking me out a bit and seeing a lot of horror stories on boards like these.

Has anyone looked at using longer term travel type /expat insurance instead of the short-term plans or ACA plans available in the USA.  Just not looking forward to a $14,000 insurance bill when i could get similar coverage under travel insurance using some thing like the product below for $2000-$2500.

Any views on how to lower insurance bill without going uninsured would be most appreciated.

I figure if someone in my family gets something chronic and expensive we will just move back to Australia and go under medicare again as we are citizens.

Cheers,

Ian
