Using high deductible health plan comparison prices for labs
« on: October 19, 2023, 12:07:52 PM »
I have a high deductible Covered California Blue Shield health plan and need labs done. I called the labs they will give me the cash price (they say it is a discount) but nobody will tell me the price if I use  the insurance. Blue Shield said they will not tell me and also admitted the cost to me will be different at different labs. Has anybody been able to figure out what Blue Shield of CA pays for labs? In the meantime I have been paying cash because I have read news stories that if you use your insurance you can end up owing hundreds more at labs. Thanks.

Blue Shield of California has published machine readable files (MRFs) to comply with the Transparency in Coverage rule.

I have not browsed any provider's file, but your answer should be in there...

Thank you. I will try to search this. They are telling me labs are a “facility” not a “professional” sonI cannot get the prices. On my plan website I can search for prices of MRIs for instance but not labs. Tomorrow I am supposed to find out more. I will update if I figure this out.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
