Fellow Mustachians -
I haven't seen anything real recent on this topic, so here goes. Do any of you bloggers have tips for beginners or specifically, beginners over age 50 who haven't grown up with social media and don't intend to be plugged in 24/7
My husband and I started a blog at:
www.freedomisgroovy.com. It’s primarily his baby. I plan to contribute around 10% of the content while concentrating on marketing. We would like to cultivate an audience and as a secondary goal, earn a little income to add to our buffer zone.
Much of the advice I'm finding online and through listening to podcasts is geared towards young-ish bloggers seeking to replace or create a full time income. Advice leads to more advice, more plug-ins, additional tools - and a lot of up-sell. It’s difficult to cut though the noise!
My husband set up a WordPress account, got approved for Google Adsense and became an Amazon affiliate. We added analytics and SEO plug-ins, share buttons and set up a Twitter account. I also registered for several other analytic tools that I’m not sure what to do with, or whether I need to spend time on them at this early point. I think the content is most important, and to that end we need to experiment with finding our voice, but I don't believe 'if you build it they will come".
I guess what I’m asking is, what’s the best use of an hour a day for maximizing a web site? What are the most important aspects of SEO to pay attention to? What are the things you wish you knew when you first started?
Many thanks to anyone who might share his or her wisdom.
