Tips and Tricks for being Mustachian in Australia/Sydney

When you live in a city for a while you start to get an idea about how to live a mustachian life there.   I'm moving with my wife and dogs to Sydney from Chicago and would like some tips about how to be mustachian in Sydney.
For instance:
If someone was moving to Chicago I'd say:
Groceries: Valli Produce or Aldi
Cheap Food Staples: All pasta is cheap, oats in bulk, Chicken Breast for $1.89/lb from Valli Produce when on sale, produce VERY cheap at Valli Produce, canned goods very cheap at Aldi.
Cell phone: Republic Wireless works well, avoid AT&T
Cycling: Not the best city for it, but you can get most anywhere on a bike. I commute in the burbs by bike daily.  City depends on route, but Chicago is slowly getting better about providing bike lanes.

Anyone have Tips about Sydney that would help me save money when I go?  I think we'll be living near Rozelle - thanks!

The best way to be mustachian in Sydney is not to move here as it is so expensive :D. I hope you got a good deal on housing as it can be stupid expensive. Have you looked online? http://www.realestate.com.au is really good, you could see where the properties are located via map view.

Groceries: Aldi is cheaper but not sure if that is near Rozelle. If you go with Coles or Woolworths, buy gift cards. Entertainment book http://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/ has gift cards for 5% off for Woolworth I believe.
Phone: Stay on prepaid to avoid bill shocks if you can. I am on a grandfathered plan at $26/45 days for more credit and data than I can possibly use.
Internet: Tpg is pretty good and more competitive compared to the bigger names (Telstra and Optus). I am paying $60/month for unlimited adsl2+, on 24mbps. You could save a bit going for a lower plan.

If you are not locked into Rozelle, I would recommend staying near a train line as they are more reliable but depends on where you need to get to.

Whilst I don't live in Sydney, most of the below can be applied there:

Groceries: Yep, Aldi's pretty cheap and decent quality, and keep an eye out for specials at the big two (Coles/Woolworths). Often markets or local fruit/vegetable shops or butchers are cheaper still for fresh produce.

Phone: There's plenty of prepaid or SIM-only postpaid deals which are cheap enough. Depends on which network (Telstra/Optus/Vodafone) works best in your area (and your phone), although they all should work fine in the cities. You might need to note that we don't have any CDMA networks, so if you're looking to bring over a Verizon/Sprint handset, you're out of luck.

However, many mobile plans here operate on a 'cap' system, where $x will get you $y in 'value' (ie: $500 of value on a $50 cap) for calls/messages (outgoing only, incoming is free). Now, those calls and messages are charged to the cap at rates of near a dollar a minute and ~25c a message. Guess what happens once the 'cap value' is exceeded?

Internet: TPG or Exetel are probably a fair whack cheaper than the big players. Basically as far as landline-based internet goes, ADSL is far more common here than cable (which is only available in the big capital cities, and you're tied to whichever provider owns the infrastructure). There's heaps of ADSL providers (mostly resellers), you could check Whirlpool (http://whirlpool.net.au) for more info.

Craigslist: We have Craigslist here, but from what I can see, it's virtually deserted. Gumtree is far more popular (or eBay).

Yes, agree shop at Aldi, they are opening new stores all the time and for mobile phone plans I use and recommend Vaya, $18 a month (bring your own phone) covers the calls and data I need. (Uses the Optus network).
For biking to work, check out the bike routes on google maps. Rozelle is close enough to the CBD to ride a bike to and from the city, though I would stay away from Victoria Road on a push bike. (Too much traffic). Lots of buses though on Victoria Rd if the weather's not nice.
