Thoughts on Rav 4 EV?
« on: June 02, 2018, 10:42:16 AM »
I currently have a 2014 Mini Countryman, which I've enjoyed. But it's starting to feel a little crowded as my kids get older. I have 3 kids, aged 5, 3.5, and 1.5, so the three carseats in the back are squeezed in. That doesn't bother me so much, but if I have our stroller in the trunk, then nothing else will fit, which can become a problem if I need to go grocery shopping etc. So I've been looking for a slightly larger car, and I came across the Rav 4 EV. It looks like it's a bit more expensive than the non-electric models, but I think not paying for gas or oil changes, plus my employer paying for my parking due to owning an all electric vehicle, would make up for the extra cost in about 2.5-3 years. I would probably be buying sometime next year, paying cash, and I'd consider adding JdeMO charging to it for about $3k. Does anyone have experience with the Rav 4 EV that can give me their thoughts?

If the price is right go for it, but I wouldn’t spend any extra dollars on faster charging at home.

They are, but you can still find them used. The newest model is a 2014.

Another larger EV, which is still sold but available used for similar prices to the RAV4, is the Mercedes B-Class. Looks like it has a huge backseat for car seats and a big cargo area. It can’t take fast charging, though.

Driving without gas is fantastic when you need to drive, I don’t think you’ll regret that switch.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
