This doesn't look accurate
« on: February 28, 2018, 09:27:25 PM »
The new 2018 IRS withholding calculator came out today so I plugged in our info for the year to see what I should consider changing my allowances to.

It's telling us to take 13 and 5 allowances. This doesn't seem to be correct, but I could be wrong. I attached a snapshot of my results after completing the exercise.

Has anyone else looked at it yet? What mistakes did I possibly make?

If you get the same result with the case study spreadsheet, then it is probably correct.  If you get different results, ...?

Thanks @MDM

Mind blown. Best spreadsheet ever.

@lampstache  - results? I'm telling all my friends/family to check their withholdings, and that calculator is an option. Would be nice to know if it's in the ballpark.

@Sibley -- After running the same data through the spreadsheet it came out to be 10 and 4 allowances. I'll probably use the spreadsheet numbers to ensure I don't have too much tax held back. So pretty close to being in the ballpark.

Thanks. Probably safe to continue giving out to friends then.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
