temp work advice
« on: January 14, 2020, 11:48:45 AM »
Does anyone have advice or know companies for professional temp work? I am burnt out. I need to KOKO for 6 more years before I coast, but I am really considering trying to find something that lets me work maybe 6-9 months a year. Part time at my current job might be a viable option (I can ask but am a little doubtful), and I thought about trying to get something with a school district. Those all seem to pay in the $11-15/hr range though if not a teacher, nurse, or one of the few positions that never open up. I work in contracts and think I might like to take temp/contract work as 3-6 month gigs through an agency. I can take off however long I want between gigs. I'm just a little stressed right now and rambling, but any ideas?

What type of specific work do you do?  There are specialty temp shops for accountants, insurance claims, administrative assistants, etc.  Call the schools and ask what temp agencies they recommend or they go through.

Be wary of recruiters calling you and telling you there's a hot job, without any specific detail on who the client is.  The recruiter will want your private information, including social security number.

Steer clear of these scammers.  They are at worst ID thieves, at best overseas recruiters from India who will claim your resume and then email it to any possible company in the relevant industry.  Then when you actually get a gig at a company, these scammers will threaten legal action against that company because they presented your resume "first".

This isn't exactly what you are looking for but I keep hearing advertisements for census jobs - in my area (mid-west city) they are advertising $20-$24/hr.

I assume they are looking for field workers but I've seen reference to a limited number of office workers.

It's definitely a temp job, but I don't know how many hours or weeks/months you have the potential to work, but it could be a start.

Did anyone work the census during the last cycle and have any feedback on hours, duties, etc?
