Small solar panel kit for apartment?
« on: February 25, 2017, 04:04:05 AM »
Hey everyone, my family is moving to LA from Chicago this summer and I have an idea to run past you all. Other than the fridge and microwave, our main electricity use on a daily basis will be powering two laptops and our phones. We also plan on doing a fair bit of camping and such. Due to the nature of our work, we need to have at least one phone and preferably a laptop with us on these trips. Do you have a recommendation on a portable solar panel kit we could keep on the roof of a car or a balcony and use to power this equipment at home and away? I think it would be cool first step towards energy independence. (Yes I know it's not cost effective).

If you don't care about cost effective, you can check out one of the Goal Zero units: http://www.goalzero.com/solar-kits?gclid=Cj0KEQiA88TFBRDYrOPKuvfY2pIBEiQA97Z8MXkzN0wggwTXKELKc__OcR4sLe6vs4kc2roEW0OlGkEaAoen8P8HAQ

They have the battery pack with integrated inverter, with USB slots to charge things.  They are marketed for RV living online.  They are basically a very expensive car battery.

Yeah I saw those online and thought they were a bit much. Agree they are basically a super expensive battery with crap solar panels purchased separately. There must be some other company that isn't trying to rip people off?
