Give me new/creative ideas to create money...
« on: March 05, 2020, 02:34:39 PM »
I have a stack of bills I've been chopping away at, despite the reduction in the refund from the IRS I was banking on, I am still determined to be debt free ASAP.

I don't have a ton of debt but never the less, it is debt and it needs t be dealt with accordingly.

Somethings I have done/am doing:
- sold whatever I could out of my houses, appliances, clothing, music equipment, etc.
- ask friends and family if they need any flooring or trades type work needed
- picked up a night shift PT job. (Not sure I could do this one again since GF works nights and we already have MIL watching baby doing the transition of me getting home and GF going to work)
- called student loans for a forbearance to take that money and allocate it towards higher interest debt.
- changed jobs to maximize income, did this 4 times in the last year so now I need to stay put for a while. (Though I have been solicited to new opportunities but I like where I am ATM.)
- currently looking for PT weekend work.
- looking to starting another cover band to make additional coin.

Whatchyew got for ideas?

Don't forget the expense side of the equation too. I've been there with wanting to get debt free and it's amazing how you can find more and more ways to squeeze money out of the budget.

My biggest suggestion is mowing lawns / yard maintenance jobs. It's a good time to go leave some fliers around your neighborhood. You could especially take advantage of people going on vacations and thus not wanting a full-scale mowing service, but need 1-2 trims while they're gone.

DH and I picked up a couple cash catering-ish jobs while paying off debt. We live in a university town and I strongly considered taking an events job doing the ticket taking or concessions at the football games one season. Sometimes you can find jobs proctoring weekend tests for high school and college kids. You could look into census worker options in your area. If you have a home, pet sitting can be really lucrative and it sounds like you've got someone home all the time already.

Any contract work related to your career or training would probably pay best though.

If you have a bicycle, try door dash for food delivery. Doing this by car doesn't make sense financially.

What caused you to end up with the debt in the first place?  That should be addressed before trying to earn more money.

I would recommend doing bank bonuses to make $100+/hr.  My wife and I make $5,000+ per year from those, along with another $5,000 or so from credit card bonuses.
