Self Publish Fiction, but get a part time job?
« on: August 11, 2016, 09:56:22 PM »
I'm new here.

So, some background- I'm 24, never held a 9-5 job (I have no clue whether that's good or bad). I grew up in an area of the country where the cost of living is outrageous and the property taxes my parents paid before moving to a lower cost area of the counter were astronomical.

I don't know if it's because the culture where I grew up seemed, defeating? I never wanted to get a job there because the whole rat race culture is something I'll never fit into.

There's a grocery chain near me now, that I love the atmosphere of when I walk in- so I'm considering getting a position there? I want to add more to my savings accounts and start really saving. Granted, I don't spend on many things.

It's going to take a few years to write and publish my stories- I'm afraid of a 9-5 job taking over my life and not having time to do writing, editing etc.

John Grisham did it the other way, until things got well launched.

How do you support yourself now? Is the idea of a part time job in a fun atmosphere for financial reasons or more of a social thing? And how much money can one really expect to earn self-publishing anything? Just curious.

Yeah, are you living with your parents or something...?
