@Sandra I switched from flipp to rebee because flipp was missing one of my flyers. So check out different ones to see what works best.

Another hello from the Okanagan! I was going to ask if you were shopping at the smaller places (Littlefort/Barrier) but you do make the drive to Costco so...

I think you are doing really well all things considering- we are 5 ppl with 2 teenagers and budget $250 a week for food. However, we also have no qualms about a midweek run to the store because we are out of milk so that could be closer to $300 a week.  You can't even really compare ON to BC prices  - we moved from there a yr and a half ago - then we were closer to $200/$225 a week. Mind you the kids were smaller as well.

I'd say keep doing what you're doing...and they'll move out soon, right :)?

You know my geography. :)  I only shop in Barriere if I'm stuck and I only shop a the General Store in Little Fort if I'm out of wine and Can't. Take. Its. Which doesn't happen often. Stuck meaning like making Mexican food and I'm out of cilantro - that would be winter as I grow tons in the summer. We are in Kamloops enough and plan well enough that we mostly stick with that. Oh, I get milk from my neighbour (have since I was a kid). $4 per gallon...can't beat that. My son drinks almost 3 gallons a week.  Now that I'm doing the math on that specifically I've just realized that it's about $50 a month. Just under 5% of our entire budget.  Yes! They will move out eventually!

Just tallied the January expenses and our grocery bill was $938...we weren't making substantial changes in January, only just questioning and observing it. Mind you, I did shop yesterday to fill the pantry and fridge...but we've been doing this for 18 months and I had yet to log a month under $1000.  Tonight my daughter made a chickpea "curry" (not much like curry, really). Red onions, garlic, roasted red peppers, pinch of smoked paprika, spinach, tomatoes and coconut milk...all over brown rice. The roasted red peppers were probably the most expensive ingredient...but all in all a fairly low-cost meal for five people. Pretty yummy too as she pureed everything but the chickpeas, tomatoes and spinach.
