Network Solutions/Web.com is absolutely crazy with their renewal prices.

For a new domain/transfer they charge $9/year but for a 3 year renewal they charge $114 (or $38/y).
Private registration advertised at $9/year but for a 3 year renewal they charge $42.

I found this old 2013 thread, http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/ask-a-mustachian/recommendations-for-web-domain-registration/
What are the recommendations these days for a good value without bad service (godaddy seams to have a bad rep).  I just have hosted email at $5/m for 5 10gb accounts with another company.

Still advise Namecheap or Gandi, currently with Gandi across the board with my domains.

Thank you great ideas.  I called Network Solutions and they offered to drop to $26/year (3y) for both services.

Namecheap Domain Registration (.com) is $10.xx / year with first year Domain Privacy free then +$2.88 for privacy.
Gandi Domain Registration (transfer .com) is $8 for the first year with free Domain Privacy all of the time then $15.50 / year renewals.

Neither really offer real multi year discounts.  I'm leaning towards Gandi for the transfer.

Do you use Gandi email and what do you think of it and in particular the spam protection?
Is your website/blog is hosted by CloudFlare the free version?

I typically recommend A Small Orange on the hosting end these days, and Cloudflare for CDN distribution as it's easy to set up and useful for cutting server load by 50-70%.

Never used Gandi's mail services, but it's relatively well received from what I've understood.

I second namecheap, good price but also does 2-factor authentication, which is critical IMO if you use your domain for an email address.

Good point on 2FA.  Gandi also looks to support it: https://wiki.gandi.net/en/contacts/login/2-factor-activation

Moved to DNS to CloudFlare. When all goes well in 72 hrs then I'll will start the domain transfer process, and hopefully my email will not go down :)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
