Title: Property tax payment: opportunity for credit card bonus
Post by: Weathering on March 05, 2017, 03:05:01 PM
Can you recommend a good way to benefit from an upcoming (early April) property tax payment?
The county I live in charges 2.19% fee for paying property tax by credit card. My usual Capital One Centure card pays me 2% back, but I'm hoping to use a sign up bonus in order to maybe get a few hundred extra $ out of the transaction. (I'll be charging $7K on April 5th, and they unfortunately don't let me split it up across two cards). Last time I used the Chase Ultimate Rewards card bonus.
Any recommendations on the sign up bonus to pursue would be greatly appreciated.

Does the sign up bonus card have a 0% introductory APR on purchases? You could defer the $7k bill, and put the cash in a CD (if the intro APR lasts at least 12 months....most last 12-18 months), earning at least 1.25%. The sign on bonus + the points (assuming it offers some sort of reward) + CD interest, so cover the fee and then some.
