Hey guys, just trying to get some opinions here for a situation that may present itself by years end. I may very soon have the option to take a job in a new city a little under 4 hours away from where I currently live. Here are the main details. The job would be a raise of almost 40% of my current income and a car/gas to drive for work(job is with the same company). I currently own a home and selling it is not an option, it has been in my family for several generations and I have completely remolded it, I am also not crazy about the idea of renting it. I have a very modest mortgage and the payment is under $400 a month. Also, this is where I plan to move back to, hopefully sooner than later. I have done research on the area where the new job is located and renting there seems to rage from a low end around $700 to a high end of $1500 or more. There would be no additional cost, the new city doesn't have a higher cost of living and is actually very walkable, where I live now walking is not an option. While the rent would likely take the majority of the pay increase, the opportunity for advancement there is much greater and staying put there is almost no chance of moving up for at least 10 years in the current position. For example after 1 year with the new position I would get a $5000 raise automatically. I guess I just want to hear what you all see good or bad in this situation. Thanks for any insight.
