Sign up bonus question, chase freedom & chase freedom unlimited
« on: November 07, 2018, 12:15:52 PM »
If I've already received the sign up bonus for the chase freedom card (spend $500 get $150) am I still eligible for the chase freedom unlimited sign up bonus (same)?

If so, is that the standard for cards that have 2 different "levels" - like the Amex blue cash/Amex blue cash preferred? Or is it case by case?

(Side question - if you're under 5/24, why are you applying for Freedom cards directly?)

A different version of the same card counts as a different card.  You're eligible to get the bonus.

Thanks. I couldn't find any fine print to say this wasn't the case but I wanted to verify before I applied.

What do you mean by "directly"?

Rather than getting a CSR or CSP and downgrading before paying the fee. There are lots of better Chase cards to get if you are under 5/24 (eg - Southwest ones, convert to Amazon at 1c/point or other gift cards - assuming you're not eligible for a CSR or CSP bonus, which is now 4 years...)

Gotcha. I don't spend anywhere near $4,000 in 3 months that I could put on a card so I mostly dabble in the $150 cash back for $500-$1000 spend and just do a few each year.

If I could find an reliable way to manufacture spend I'd be interested in doing more but I haven't found anything that works for me. Even to hit $500 I need some planning ahead as I like to keep all groceries on my Amex blue preferred with 6% back.

Not even MS - can you pay taxes, say with Plastiq or similar? Pre-pay utilities?

Any big expense, basically. Doesn't work if you rent a room and have no other expenses - which is also a great position to be in!
