Open Season coming soon (Feds)
« on: November 08, 2019, 08:02:46 PM »
So open season is about to start real soon and I have questions for the vets:

For those of you service connected but not a 100%, does anybody solely rely on VA health care coverage and opt out on private healthcare coverage? I know VA is not the best but at this stage (33 yrs) i dont really care.

It seems to me that I can go on about anything to my local VA clinic and I'm at 80%. I had private insurance for the past year and i rarely (maybe around 3x at most) used it for ie. urgent care.

My private coverage is for single and for the year I have more than $1500 in contribution (deductions), for those 3 incidents I used it. Sounds like a waste to me.

I'm thinking maybe this year i'll opt out on private healthcare coverage, keep my dental and vision and save that premium for my IRA.

What do you guys think?

What happens if you have a catastrophic incident (say car crash) and you are taken to a normal hospital?  Weigh the financial consequences of that vs your premium.
