New car recommendations?
« on: June 07, 2017, 02:46:19 PM »
If you had to get a new car today, what car would you get? It does not have to be brand new. Just has to be something highly recommended by Mr mustache.  Also don't forget to include the current price range for that type of car.
please be as specific as possible, and state the reasons for the recommendation.

Thanks!

I'm very happy with the Ford C-Max Energi I bought used last year. Plugging in rather than buying gas for most trips is awesome, and it fits my family of 5 fine. I bought it for $12,750 or so with 27k miles on it.

We're I buying again, I might go full EV to avoid ICE maintenance, and just rent to go out of town. They're practically giving away new Nissan Leafs as MMM discovered, and used EVs are very cheap for what you get if they fit your lifestyle.

5-8 year old Hyundai Accents are a great buy at the moment.  You can often find a 2010 with less than 100k on it for 3-4K.

An early third-gen Prius would be good given the low fuel consumption, but they're $10K+.

Otherwise, probably another 1.3-1.6L hatchback from around 2009-12. I like the look of the Suzuki Swift or Mazda2. Maybe the next size up if I get a great deal and it's not a thirsty pig.

I'd probably just enter a price range and year range into Carsales, sort by price low-high and see what takes my fancy.
