New car purchase - suggestions/reccomandations
« on: January 15, 2016, 05:41:20 PM »
   I'm turning to the collective borg mindset;
   I'm planning to purchase a new vehicle. The current one is 18 years old and might last couple of months before will die an untimely dead (oil leaks , doors not closing etc). It is a sedan, not an SUV.
   I'm vacillating between a Subaru Forester and a Subaru Outback. I do want (not need!) the AWD and I do plan to keep the car at least 15 years or so.
   What are personal experiences pro/cons for the 2 cars listed above ?
   I'm close to punching out and I can *afford* the vehicle. But they are somewhat different from what I gather _ I did drove them both at the dealer.
   Forester :
   CONS : more spartan, seats ok , EyeSight (safety technology for which I'm willing to pay for) is at Rev 2 ; Noisier then OB
   PROS : Exceptional all around visibility, with Eyesight you get a ridiculous moonroof. Maybe 1.5K cheaper compared to similar equipped OB
   Outback :
   CONS : Visibility significant less then Forester, driver seat closer to the GND , price , No moonroof at the same trim level as the forester.
   PROS : EyeSight at the latest Rev (3). Some additional safety features added vs Rev2 and better performance . Quieter, but 1.5 K more.

   Both vehicles shares the same engine and transmission. MPG is in the favor out OB , by 1MPG ( same)
   Thoughts ?

If you do not need the space, I would get the Forester. I do not think the additional features (although the OB does have a much nicer interior...) is worth $1.5k but YMMV.

We went with the Subaru Forrester 2015, but here in Florida last March the Outback was significantly more then just 1.5K. We are totally happy with ours, made a large down payment and financed the rest at 0%, will be paid off March next year.

For me personally visibility was a big factor and if you are buying a 2016 it will be a total upgrade - they upgrade only once every five years - so enjoy.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
