Need a gift rec for retired small business owner
« on: December 02, 2016, 12:43:54 PM »
My in laws owned a small business in town for 30 years, and retired this fall after selling it. The business has existed for over 100 years in our small town. Despite my suggestions, my husband and his sibling did not host a party or otherwise acknowledge their parents' retirement, so I'd like to give them something for Christmas to mark the occasion. I thought of a framed picture of the storefront (with dates? names?). Any other retirement gift ideas? Just some background: One of them was happy to retire and the other is struggling a bit with it.

Typically small business owners are tied to the business with little time away: if that has been going on for 30 years your in-laws have just been granted a temporal and geographical freedom that they may not know what to do with.

Perhaps take them on a day out somewhere to start widening their horizons?
