Mostest Mustachemobile?
« on: November 05, 2013, 06:08:44 PM »
So while I'll never in my life drive a supercar, I like reading Jalopnik, I watch Top Gear UK, I drool over the latest Mustang renderings, and I dream of building kit cars with my son when he is older - or just fixing up the old Jeep (93YJ) slowly oxidizing in the garage.

It got me thinking - what's the Mostest Mustachemobile out there? Is it reliable? Easy and cheap to fix? High MPG? Readily available for $200? Carries home an entire aisle from the big box store?

Hmm.. I think it's very dependent on what "the job" is - ie, finding the right tool for.

I'd say a smaller car with a towbar probably has the most flexibility. The tow ratings in Canada and I believe the US are way below those in the UK, but I think there was another thread with someone putting a home made hitch on a Civic or Accord or whatnot.

So probably something like that. A Civic or Corolla with a hitch; perhaps one step up. Or, even better from my perspective - a Matrix or Vibe. Hatch > boot any day!

(Boot = trunk, tow bar = hitch - except a towbar really is the bar onto which you attach the trailer, the hitch is what the bar connects to, but ANYWAY!)

Dodge Neon.. Available for dirt cheap ( Ipaid $350 for a really nicely kept example), you can get a tow hitch that is rated for 1000lbs. Add that to a Harbor Freight self assemble 8*4 trailer and you have a versatile tool.

We doubled the size of our house with our own bare hands and moved a LOT of material with that thing.

Oh and it gets 35 MPG (US).. note US MPG's are 20% less than UK MPGs but really are the same cus a US gallon is 20% smaller than a UK gallon.

Hey Russ, if you aren't going to play the game, at least be specific.

So which bike? Does it need accessories to carry home the giant purchases?
