Well, the obvious answer here is that your parents should not move somewhere they can't afford to live comfortably. Second choice obvious answer is multi-generational housing, but that's highly dependent on if you could live with your parents without murder being committed.

Don't buy a house for you + parents that you can't afford on your own.

After rereading that insanity (my writing, not yours), yes I concur moving to an area would be a mistake. I am going to leave it there because I need to do some calculations on cost of living.
