Am I able to use VTI then switch to Vtsmx/vtsax when I meet the minimums (inside a Roth)?

Their phone support is super helpful for questions like this, so I would recommend giving them a call. From what I can tell, you still have to hit the $3,000 minimum before you can start trading ETFs, but I'm not entirely sure.
