Joint Mustachian Activities - Anyone host large events

One of my friends has been awesome keeping her social network (girls night), so i joked we should have a girl's night and friends. There wasn't much opposition to it, but the issue seems to be who could host/finding a restaurant.

That got me down a spiral of random things you could rent as a group that would provide high-value some not really practical (Outdoor County Swimming Pool - $150/hr for a max of 300 people that allows BYOBeer/Wine/Food- who wouldn't want to host a private pool party for their closest 300 friends) and numerous country venue rentals.

Instead of going to a restaurant or someone's house, the room rentals have free set-up and kitchenettes for like $300. A potluck of 60 people would be $5/person plus what they bring. Probably 1/4 of the cost of a restaurant if drinks were ordered. Feel the value is really high and people would enjoy the get together. I feel the main problem is getting buy-in as most people seem to have the restaurant mindset for a get together.

Anyone here host large mustachian social gatherings? What were your best social gatherings? How do you get people to share the initial costs?

I reckon the real main problem would be getting 300 people to actually cough up the £5 and bring something to the potluck. It sounds like an organiser's nightmare which is highly likely to leave you out of pocket as people drop out or "forget" or ask if they can pay on the day.
