Hey y'all,
For those of you who are comfortable with your current lifestyles (e.g. not working hard towards a specific goal, but relatively stable day-to-day), how are you investing your time and energy for greatest impact?
About myself: I'm a self-employed software engineer and married with two young kids. Because I'm self-employed, I can typically spend my time how I want. Our kids are getting older and more independent, which means I have more time (and mental energy) to explore interests.
I'm currently involved in a volunteer visioning committee for my town, and recently joined the local chamber of commerce. Neither are much of a time commitment, nor provide much direction on "what to do". For the former, the big topic of conversation is affordable housing, which is really interesting but also a huge, massive, thorny problem.
What other opportunities should I consider? Are there high-impact initiatives in your town that you think Tualatin should emulate? What sort of community improvement activities (local or regional) are you involved with?
I love volunteering too. This question is more focused on "impact", or effort that can move the needle (to use corporate jargon speak).
Thanks!
