How to jazz up a back pack
« on: July 31, 2017, 12:01:42 PM »
Ok, I know the mustachian answer is "Leave it Be," but I'm trying to brainstorm ideas. My son is going to kindergarten and my husband received a very nice back pack for free from work. It is a quality brand that we'd like to use, but it has a large company logo on the front pocket for a company we've never even heard of. I'd like to cover it with something more kid-friendly, but I'm having trouble finding a patch that would cover it for less than $15 or so. Any other ideas?

Does your son have an old tshirt with a favorite character?  You could cut it out and sew it on patch style to the backpack.  Or get a few different pins to decorate the backpack.  Then he can change the pins next year as his tastes change.

I don't know how large of a logo you are talking, but I saw some patches at Target a few weeks ago, around 3" tall and wide, for around $4.

I hadn't thought of the t shirt idea! I'll see what he has that may work.  My MIL is a seamstress, so she can fashion something pretty easily out of what he has, I would think. I'll also check out target. The nearest one is 45 minutes away, but I do have a gift card so maybe I can make a trip and get his supplies there. Thanks!

Both Fabric paint pens and wide (and narrow) sharpies will work on a backpack. I label dark items with a gold or silver sharpie -- shiny! So you could also trace shapes on with chalk or pencil, then color in with either colored sharpies or fabric paint.

My artistic ability is lacking, but I hadn't thought of tracing something. Maybe he can come up with some good ideas. So far, he doesn't really seem to have an opinion!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
