Title: How should I invest and retire with $1 million?
Post by: mike50 on August 18, 2014, 06:17:13 PM
I'm 45 and want to retire with $1MM. I expect to live until age 90. I have a paid off home, no debts, and I'm single. What should be my asset allocation and inside my portfolio? What should be my withdrawal rate?

We can't answer those questions for you. Even if we knew your expenses, there's no way we can tell what your personal risk tolerance is.

You'll have to come up with your own IPS.

Before doing anything else, I suggest you start educating yourself on the basics of investing. Links for helpful sites are all over the site as well as some MMM blog articles. My example above is very general, and you'll need a lot more details worked out before you really do anything.

If you just want an allocation, how about 80/20 stocks/bonds?

I advise real estate if that is your bent. If not here is a fine asset allocation model from a wise fellow.
