How much condo insurance?

How do you figure out how much condo insurance you need?  The master policy will build the walls and you do the inside.  One guy said $50 x square foot.  ?

I have the minimum because I have a mortgage.  If it was owned outright, I'd likely forego insurance altogether.  Though I have a cheaper condo.  If it was a $600k condo in NYC or something, my thoughts would change.
