How long till you can refinance?
« on: September 11, 2014, 12:16:01 PM »
Hi mustachians,

My husband and I bought our house in March of this year, and at the time the best mortgage rate we could get was 4.75%. Thankfully because we signed with a certain mortgage lender they actually paid a few thousand dollars in closing costs.

I am wondering if mortgage rates have gone down again below this point, because it sounds like a lot of you have lower rates, but I'm not sure exactly where to check. When we were getting this mortgage I checked online and things looked lower than when we actually called around to mortgage brokers.

That being said, how soon can you refinance a mortgage?  I know there are costs involved, so I'm not sure when it would be profitable to even check, but if there are lower rates I would love to get one! Can you all give me some advice from your years of wisdom? Thanks!

Here's some recent discussion:

I'm not aware of any rules preventing you from refinancing immediately. You just have to weigh the costs vs. the benefits. Post your numbers over in that thread and you'll get some responses for sure.
