« on: May 12, 2013, 08:43:03 AM »
Im mid-30s and have gotten back into running recently. My best time so far is a 27:30.

Just curious for those of you who run what your age is and current time.

I just turned 31, the rest of my family has always loved running, but I'm just now easing into it (never eally appealed to me, but it is inexpensive excercise).

I just ran one of those obstacle course/mud run 5k's in 28min, so I'd guess I'd be around 26maybe without the obstacles?  I'm really guessing here since I've only run the one timed event and don't time my morning jogs.

That's awesome. Keep up the good work!!!  I've taken it down from 32 to my current 27ish.

I'd like to get it under 25 as a goal.

I'm 23 and just recently ran a sub 17 min 5k.  However, I ran in college so I don't really count.

I definitely recommend trail running as opposed to road running. If you've never gone for a run in the woods you're missing out

My best ever was 31 minutes...oh and it was only 4.5km...so I suppose it would have been about 34 minutes?

I'm a 36 year old office worker who sits at a desk all day, and I run a 5k in 24 minutes and change about once a year, on about a month's training each time.

For our local races, the average men's 5k time is about 30 minutes and the average women's time is about 33 minutes.  I think that includes a lot of walkers, though.

I'm 32 and never ran until just before I turned 30.  My best 5K is around 26 minutes.  Lately I've just been running without tracking my time so I bet I've gotten slower!

Holy cow! That's pretty fast! I'm kinda interested in trying out trail running myself. Do you do this individually or with a group?

I am 31. I've been running off and on since I was in my early 20s. I was the kid in elementary school who was coming in last when we had to run the mile. My classmates were well into a game of kickball while I was still finishing my 1 mile run so I never thought running was for me until I had to pick up a one credit conditioning course my senior year of college. My fastest 5k was 24 something and my slowest race was 34:00 (4 months postpartum).

Great job!  I'm 32 and run 5k races under 21 minutes.

I am 40, fat, and  just had my 4th baby and I recently ran a 5K race in 38 minutes.

With continued weight loss and regular running, I would like to get that time to 24-26 minutes.

At 24, I am running it in the 25 minute range. I used to run it in the 21-22 minute range and I am happy with that. My goal is to get my 10k down to an 8 minute pace and I would be fine with that.

Wow.  You guys are all super runners.  I just ran a 5K in 28:00.  I thought that was pretty f'n awesome.  :)

I'm 38 and haven't been running at all - just doing crossfit.  I used to run more, but my 5K time was always over 30 minutes.  If I ran and did crossfit, maybe I would do better.  My best 5K was 27 something.

29 years old, had a baby a few months ago and just did a 26-ish 5k. It was pretty flat, though. Best time was about 22 min, before kids and abdominal fat. I did it barefoot, too :)

I used to run it  in 22 mins 2 years ago (age 45).    I had never been 'athletic' as a kid, was always picked last in gym, and as a result had always avoided sports.    I didn't start running until 35 when I found out about weight bearing exercise, age and bone production.
I was happy with my 50 minute 10k race, but when I married my husband say "you can go faster", and wrote me up a training plan that magically worked.  It's amazing what can be achieved with a more scientific approach to training.

This year I'm nursing some sort of long term hamstring tendinitis, so I just jog around the block with friends, talking, at about a 6 minute K pace.

16:22 at 17. That was about 1 min too slow to be considered fast. About  19 mins these days at 40. I don't do races any more but still try to get in an 45mins 4x a week at around 7 min/miles. Running races is a lot different when you have been running 10-20k every day (ie. high school) than when you running a couple times a week and rarely run much farther than the race distance.

Trail running is great. As a bonus, if you like to run races (as I do) trail races tend to be cheaper than road races.

I'm 37 and I ran a 21:30 5k a couple of years ago when I was running marathon mileage (70-80km per week). I haven't run one all-out lately but I'd guess I'm closer to a 23 min 5k shape right now.

In September 2012 I ran a 17:30, coming in 3/600. That was the last time I TT'd my 5k.

Edit: I turned 25 in April, so I was 24 at the time. My previous best was 18:30 in 2009.

This thread should be my kick in the ass to start running again. Rand X-C in high school and college. Back then I did a 5k in the 17 range usually (best was 16:45) and 8k's in college around 30-32 minute range (best was 29:30). Today? I have no clue. I guess time to get out and see. Much slower most likely.

never done a 5k, but I've done the Bay to Breakers (12k) in just a couple minutes over an hour, and I've run a mile and a half (2.4k) in 12:46

I'll be doing the B2B again in a few days, but this year I'm not planning to even try to run it, I'm planning to dance the entire 7.5 miles!
