Hello all,
I work at a small law firm (attorney) and when the stay-at-home orders were issued at the end of March (for the state I am in), I wasn't sure if I would still have a job (there were rumors of layoffs). So, I applied for a temporary government job so that my income was less likely to be disrupted and although the government job pays $25k less than my current job, at least I would have some income should I be laid off. Well, the government job took a few weeks to get back to me, but now they would like me to continue the hiring process; in the meantime, business at my current job has not slowed down (surprisingly) although we all know things can change at any time with the economy or possible fall out.
Background: I would love to work for the government again (I did once before) and I know the jobs are hard to come by. It would be A LOT less stress than my current job- but it's temporary and they don't know if it would be a 3 month assignment or a 7-8 month assignment. I don't know if I am crazy to even consider this? As far as my current practice area, it is HIGH STRESS and I've been looking to change for quite some time. My current job allows us to work remote right now (we kind of have to however), which I LOVE; the government job may or may not be remote (though I heard it was remote). I have children, so I have to be remote now (schools are out until next August; so far, summer camps are cancelled also).
Since I have been looking for a change...am I missing an opportunity? I am also having a hard time with the less money situation- we really can't take a $2k or so hit to monthly income right now.
Any thoughts? Negotiating points? Ask government job if I could just work a few hours/week to keep my feet in the door? I have not had to even look for a new job in so many years, I am completely rusty when it comes to the job hunt.
Thank you
