401k fees
« on: February 11, 2013, 05:20:25 PM »
MMMers:

I recently read a 2005 version of The Bogleheads Guide to Investing and the chapter on 401k fees had me intrigued...and somewhat worried.  The bottom line (back then) seemed to indicate that 401k fees are somewhat unknowable, but have huge impacts on your wealth.  But I remember reading an article somewhere else indicating laws had changed (in 2012?) making these fees more transparent.

Has anyone here cracked the code to find out what fees your 401k administrator charges?

Thanks!

Zaga

I'm fortunate in that my work has published the fees clearly for as long as I've been there.  We also got an e-mail when the new law came out last summer detailing (again) the account fees.  Since that law came out you should be able to find the account administrative fees fairly easily.  If you can't, ask HR, they are required to give you this info.

There are also fees wrapped up in each fund, those have to be individually found by reading the fund pages.
