Have housing near Martinez, CA?
« on: October 17, 2020, 07:07:18 PM »
I am taking a BIG step in leaving traditional employment and jumping into contracted travel social work. This blog and FI principles helped me achieve this pivotal moment to taking contract work so I can travel and bump up my pay. Really exciting (and a bit scary).

I am looking for housing in the Martinez, CA area and thought a Mustachian would have some good resources to finding decent housing. I'm from Michigan and looking for housing in this area is just a tad higher (ok a lot!). Would like private housing for myself, husband (works remotely) and our 10lb dog.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think that will work out for 3 months for a dog and 2 people- one who has to work remotely on the phone with customers.

Why Martinez specifically and what's your budget?

I live in the general area. I've been walking and dropping campaign material lately and I'm seeing a lot of empty apartments. Interestingly, I am seeing no "For Rent" signs.

That's where the hospital I'll be working at is located. I'm fine with a 15-20 minute commute if there is something decent in surrounding areas. My budget- Well, I found a couple places for $2800/month so something below that would be great. It needs to be furnished since I'm only there for 3 months unless the contract is extended.

Try furnishedfinder.com -- it is geared toward traveling nurses.

Hmmm, $2800 seems slightly high-ish. I would try Pleasant Hill. Nice community, easy, back roads drive to Mtz.

Yes that's where I looked first. Slim options and that's where I found housing for $2800. I may need to bite the bullet though.

Thanks Dicey! I'm open to Pleasant Hill and Concord as well. Oakland has A LOT of housing options but the commute would be too long I think. I saw a couple places in Benicia but the commute was much longer when I put it in Google Maps even though the distance doesn't appear that far.

I know nothing about the area so I appreciate your input.

check out Hercules, Pinole, Crockett to the west. a bit breezier in warmer Bay area days.

I found this in Concord for $1800 in the gated Galindo Woods Condominium Community but it's on craigslist and I'm so skeptical that it's a scam. Can't quite tell between emails exchanges.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think that will work out for 3 months for a dog and 2 people- one who has to work remotely on the phone with customers.

Dogs are likely to be a problem. The Bay Area rental market isn't fond of pets, especially big ones.

You might want to look in Rodeo, Crockett, Pinole...it's a quick trip via Hwy 4 to Martinez from there.

Thanks for the suggestion! I agree housing with dogs is MUCH more difficult. At least he's just a little 11 lb. guy.
