Has anyone tried Groupon Getaways?
« on: February 21, 2017, 08:12:13 AM »
I am an international travel noob and am considering trying one (or more) of these getaways with my wife to get a feel for how to approach planning a trip in the future as well as get our feet wet with the whole idea of visiting international locales.

Has anyone had any experience with these?  I know it should be cheaper to plan out everything in advance on our own, but I'm thinking this type of trip would be a good middle ground since we'll be outsourcing some of the planning and uncertainty.  We also aren't FIRE'd yet so there are time constraints as well.

What do you all think?  Any input appreciated!

I have not personally done one, but my best friend did one to New Zealand and Fiji. I think this was a more open-ended one without tours or anything, just had the hotels and airfare included. She had a great time and was very happy with the trip for what she paid. No complaints about the hotels or anything. I think another friend did one to somewhere in the Caribbean and was happy as well. I would be interested to hear someone's experience to a non-English speaking country as it appears those have more of the tours and guided expeditions and whatnot.

I think they're usually great prices unless you're the type to do hostels or have a lot of travel points or miles for flights and that sort of thing.

Thanks for the input.  That's pretty much what I was thinking.

I don't have travel points (yet) and wouldn't do hostels with my wife.  Potentially, I wouldn't mind AirBNB's but I'm just not familiar with doing so overseas (have used it plenty in the States).
