Title: Guidance on a job title
Post by: Zola. on January 09, 2019, 06:59:24 AM
I am going to have a conversation with my boss about changing my role... I am a web developer, a graphic designer.. and as of the last year, the business Salesforce administrator...all rolled into one.

Naturally, this isn't sustainable as there is too much going on.

I have been thinking about trying to offload all the graphic design stuff onto a junior... but I need to think of a new job title for me as part of this which encompasses web development and also the Salesforce admin stuff.  My title is outdated (Web & Print Designer).

I have written down a list of all the stuff I do, and building a case around what I could offload onto a junior, in order to fulfil more of my other roles. I am done mentally with print and graphic stuff.

Can anyone help suggest a title?  Maybe it's as simple as "Web Developer & Salesforce Administrator"?   'Web Development & Systems' / Analyst'?

I have been in this company for quite a while, so this is an important moment for me, I need to be seen to be progressing in my career and for me an updated job title is a key part of this, if I am to stay in the company longer term.

Would really appreciate thoughts.

Cheers

"Web Developer & Salesforce Administrator" sounds good to me. Although I am not sure what "administrator" here means. Is it administrating sales in a system? Or is it managing something? The word Manager in a title often sounds good.

"Analyst" also sounds more high level than developer. Maybe "Systems analyst and Salesforce administrator" or "Systems analyst and Salesforce manager" could be a thing, if that covers your job?

I think it is a good idea to change your title to cover your new job.

To help OP out, Salesforce is software program, so their title is kind of like database admin or something along those lines.

I do a combination of report/dashboard development and software administration.  They just updated my title to "Senior IT Business Specialist".

It's very generic, but it reflects the fact that I'm not completely specialized in any one area anymore, and I'm a "senior" level (vs junior or Principal/Architect).
