Good location for a Skype job on the road?
« on: June 28, 2018, 03:23:56 PM »
So my wife has been working part time since well before I retired and loves her job.  She has had a hunch for a while that they may hire a full time employee which would consume her part time hours.  She just got heads up that they are taking applications and doing interviews while we are on our 5 week National Park road trip.  Despite my protests, she would like to apply for the position.  They have suggested that she can do the interview (includes a presentation) via Skype.  Right now, she does not know exactly when that interview will be or where we will be when it happens.  There is a very real chance we may be in Olympic National Park, Cascades National Park, or Banff, Canada.  If this is the case, are there appropriate places for on the fly teleconferences?  I was thinking Kinkos or similar may have "meeting rooms" for such things.  Libraries might be another option, but without knowing where we will be, it makes it difficult to do any firm planning.  Any ideas?

She might look to see if there's a co-working space in a nearby town that would let her do a one-day usage. It wouldn't be cheap (those can easily be $25 for the day) but might be worth it.

Libraries are unlikely, since they tend to have undifferentiated public space and to be generally quiet -- whispering on your interview doesn't look good. ;) Kinkos are also unlikely, I've never seen a phone room in one of them.

Worst comes to worst, she might try a quiet cafe with internet.

Any hotel room? Just make sure there is good lighting, clutter-free background, and pick a good angle (don't look down at the camera).

It'll cost, but that is certainly the simplest idea.  The likelyhood of an appropriate hotel being near the parks is high.  Thanks!
