Getting better 401k fund options?
« on: December 18, 2018, 07:25:28 AM »
Recently started at a ~140 person company. The 401k plan is with Fidelity, and the fund selections are OK- there's only 5 low-cost options, but they include U.S. large and mid caps, U.S. total bond market, and international large cap. However, there's lots of low-cost Fidelity funds that aren't even offered- U.S. small cap, for example. I talked to one of our 2 HR people, and she basically said we had no choices and Fidelity just gave us what they gave us. Anyone have experience in a situation like this? What did you do to get changes made?

You could consider How to campaign for a better 401(k) plan - Bogleheads, but the incremental benefit you might or might not get is already low compared with many not so good 401k plans.

Good advice.  Your HR person is mis-informed.  The company has a wide variety of choices with Fidelity.
