Friend Sent Me Resume....
« on: July 30, 2015, 04:12:11 PM »
I recommended a friend that I worked with at a previous job to my past supervisor (at a separate job) because my friend's skills are an excellent match.  There's no one I can think of that would be a better fit for the position. Anyway, she sent me her resume today to pass along and there's a couple typos. I was just going to fix the typos for her but figured that wouldn't do her any favors so I highlighted the errors and sent it back to her.  I told her I'd forward her resume after she fixed the errors. I would want someone to do the same for me but for some reason I feel like kind of a d*ick. Opinions?

As long as you didn't start your reply by saying "hey dummy", I think you're fine.

I agree. You did her a favor by sending it back for correction. I routinely toss resumes that contain typos.

Zero dick in that move.  I'd appreciate it for sure.

I would have prefaced it with something like "I know my supervisor is a stickler for grammer and I noticed a few typos..." But yeah I don't think anyone should be offended that you are trying to help. I routinely send my cv out for criticism from my professional friends and it is much better for it.

No, you're well within the being-a-good-friend category that also requires telling friends when they have lettuce in their teeth. Your friend probably uses the same resume over and over, so it's good for him/her to know so the original can be fixed. I know I did this when I first started applying for jobs and was so embarrassed in retrospect, but it was a good lesson.
