At the end of the day, this is more a question of principal and practicality than much savings but I would like to here your thoughts. There isn't much money involved but each mustachian decision adds up.
I have a 2012 Samsung Chromebook. It is slow as could be and has a dull and small screen. If I sold it with the two chargers I could probably get $50-ish for it. It does work fine even though it is 4 years old, but rock bottom performance. At that price it might make sense to keep around for a backup.
Anyhow, I just bought a Dell chromebook 13 w/ an intel i3 processor w/ a broken display for $160 + $70 for the replacement screen. All in, new, it is a $566 comp (after tax) which i just got for $230 (with a slightly dented case). I was planning on selling it for probably a $350ish.
BUT I replaced the monitor and the Dell 13 has a much purtier display than anything else I would get on the used market , Chromebook or PC. Now I am asking myself the likelihood that my old comp lasts much longer. When it dies I will have to buy something else anyway. So given the deal I got, am I missing the forest through the trees on this one.
The flip side, is keeping the Dell is a $300+ swing, at lest temporarily.
What do you think? Side info, this is a second computer - sort of. I have a work laptop I can bring home but I am also in night school so I prefer not to be lugging my work comp around too much.
Your thoughts are much appreciated.
