Fix for unraveled carpet eaten by vacuum
« on: September 26, 2016, 09:28:07 AM »
Yesterday the vacuum ate part of the carpet.  It must have caught some thread that was pulled up a bit, and it just unraveled a line about a foot long.  I was able to extricate all of the thread from the vacuum, but now I've got a pile of thread & a line in the carpet that's missing.  We can't leave as it - we have a cat who would just make it worse.  I don't love the carpet, but on the other hand, I had (and have) no intentions of replacing it now so a fix should last at least 5 years and ideally 10.

How should I should fix this?

- Cut the carpet at the ends and leave it alone?
I'm afraid it'll unravel

- Cut the carpet at the ends and hot glue them down to help with unraveling?

- Take the excessive thread and go back and forth over the hole to cover it up a bit so it's not quite as obvious and hot glue all of it down (or cut it and glue some of it down)?

- [Insert your fix here]

I've had luck using a hot glue gun to glue it back in place. Doesn't look amazing after, but makes a huge difference and hides the naked spot fairly well. I've also had good luck of it holding up.
