Any one else on here listen to a lot of Podcasts?
For me this is the best past time during long or short car trips as well as during workouts and before bed.

Over the years I have accumulated thousands of hours of knowledge with this simple pass time.

Some of my favorites that I listen to each week:
Underground Wellness Radio, The Tim Ferris Show, James Althcuher,  and The Entrepreneur on Fire.

What podcasts do you listen to and what are you normally doing while listening?

Favorite Podcasts are This American Life and MarketPlace.  I listen to MarketPlace at the gym and tend to listen to This American Life when I travel...it's great during long flights.

My current "regulars" I'll throw on during my commute are the YouAreNotSoSmart podcast, and the BiggerPockets podcast.

If you haven't been listening to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, you're really missing out. His current series on WW1 is amazing, and the Prophets of Doom illuminated an event from history I had never even heard of!

I listen to a lot of podcasts such as The Young Turks, NYT Book Review, NYT Science Times, Science Talk, Science Friday, and others already mentioned in previous posts. I listen to audiobooks from Librivox (free public domain books). And I listen to college courses. There are many repositories of college courses out there, but oyc.yale.edu is one for Yale courses.

I really enjoy Freakonomics Radio.

Side Note: Steve Levitt's voice on that podcast sounds similar to MMM's voice. Although that might just be a figment of my imagination, I'm not sure if anyone else would agree. Can anyone else who has met MMM in person (or listened to podcasts he's on) tell me if they also notice this?

I enjoy Money Mondays on the Tom Leykis Show (www.blowmeuptom.com), Money segment starts at 5pm pacific time, lots of a good job/life/frugal advice and you can call in Suzi Orman style for advice, although I'm too chicken to ever do it.

i've got a bunch i listen to when work permits but my favorite so far is 'why you're wrong'. it's like 'stuff you should know' but i thing more factual. plus the guys are kinda snobby but still likable and both are pretty bright. they've got about 100 podcasts but they've been slacking lately due to having real jobs and lives.

Another Dan Carlin fan.  I've recently rediscovered him, so I am just listening to the Prophets of Doom.  Very interesting story.  Before that his 5 part series on the Mongols.  His Ghosts of the Ostfront was really well done too.

Right now on CBC I listen primarily to Q.
And on NPR "Ask Me Another"

But I totally have to check out some of these suggestions as I listen to a lot of radio as I work.

I listen to a bunch of the stuff already mentioned, and a few things I haven't seen already.

Top 3:
Mom and Dad are Fighting -- Honestly, I don't generally like kids, and I don't intend to have any of my own for a while, but this show is incredibly entertaining in that the hosts are interesting and their attitudes about parenting are refreshingly non-hysterical (though of course sometimes I disagree with them).
Quote
Savage Love
-- Podcast about sex & relationships, kinks, and non-vanilla & PC stuff.  Dan's views have really changed my perspective on monogamy and opened my mind.
Quote
On Point
-- In depth show about various topics where they'll bring in experts and also take calls from viewers.  Me loves Tom Ashbrook.  Some of the stuff is (I have to say it) so. on. point. (!)

Others:
This American Life
Serial (serial show from This American Life, just started and super interesting)
The Moth
Radiolab
Ask Me Another
Snap Judgement
Pop Culture Happy Hour
Planet Money
Freakonomics
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me

Ill second EconTalk as one of the best podcasts on all kinds of economic issues.

The Survival Podcast is a great podcast that focuses on making your life better, more efficient, and self-sufficient. It is prepper stuff but just scroll through to find your favorite topics. He covers a ton of things.

The Paleo Solution with Robb Wolf - Really funny show where you get to learn about health and how your body functions. The people that come on the show are practical geniuses.

This American Life
Conversations with Richard Fidler

Conversations is a 1 hour chat between the host (Richard Fidler) and a guest who may be someone famous or someone I have never heard of before but who has something interesting or unique to talk about.

The BBC have me pretty well covered with BBC Radio 4, 5 & 6 so I don't really bother too much with podcasts, the only two I have consistently listened to have been the Co-Main Event MMA Podcast and Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast both of which I heartily recommend if you have any interest in errr fighting or chatting shite.

A huge thanks for this recommendation! I've been listening to Conversations and am really enjoying the series.

Terry Gross on NPR remains my favourite radio interviewer, but the people Fidler interviews are from a much more diverse crowd... so that's doubled the number of long interviews I get to listen to each week. Thank you Lukim.

They do deep dives into Adventure Time, my favorite ten minute cartoon show.  It gets pretty silly.

Was thinking yesterday on a long run with a podcast on that the quality/ content is getting so good its hard to belive podcasts are still free. Seems like a subscription based model might not be too far away. Hopefully not though.
To add to the list-
Rich Roll and Ben Greenfield's podcasts are also new favorites of mine.
Looking to diversify a bit tho and get out of wealth and health based shows.

I listen to the mad dentist's pod cast.

In addition Rob Bell started one this year that is fantastic. He takes on a wide variety of guests from The Minimalists, band members, research experts to Oprah. For anyone interested in spiritual talk, I can't recommend it enough.

I also listen to Coffee Break French which is free up to a point. Great for staying fresh on some of my French skills.

Here's a new one that's pretty interesting Thought Stack: Mental Models and Book Shorts.

The host does an actionable book short each weekend so it feels like you've read a book a week but in less than 15 minutes.  A pretty cool cast for those looking for something shorter and not just interviews.

My biggies right now:

the longest shortest time (parenting podcast; really well done although the host seems to wish she were Ira Glass)

why oh why (guilty pleasure; very similar to Sex and the City except the stories are true)

I also love Andy Stanley's Your Move podcast. Those are Christian, though.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
