Title: Falling off the wagon...
Post by: superone! on August 31, 2014, 02:05:32 PM

Have any of you ever fallen off the money mustache wagon?

I recently did--going on an epic spending spree. Waaaaaay too much money. I'm feeling ashamed and frustrated with myself. Unfortunately none of the spending was on actual *things* for myself that I can return--it was all on gifts and restaurant/activity expenses for my brother's birthday and a family visit in another state.

Anyone have experience with falling off the wagon and have some words of encouragement to get back on track? I feel like I made some stupid spending choices, and I'm beating myself up about it. I'm trying to move past it, but I am having trouble and dwelling a bit.

Just like with anything that fails temporarily you have to get back to doing the things that work for you.  It is the same as  when you cheat on a diet, etc.  It does not mean that you have failed but it is just a "blip" on your radar screen so to speak.

Mustacianism is about making choices.  It is not about a life of isolationism and abhorring spending of all kinds.  If it was an important family visit that happens infrequently I would chalk it up to enjoying your money well and knowing that you're following the principles properly.
