Expats: Car Crash in Mexico, surgery and lawsuit
« on: October 08, 2019, 09:35:50 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm looking for the advice of anyone who may have had a circumstance happen to them similar to what we are currently going through now. I appreciate any help.

My father was involved in a car crash 2 days ago in the state of Durango (Mexico). He now has a broken hip and requires surgery. The driver (my father was the passenger) collided with a trailer abandoned on the road late at night. The trailer apparently belongs to the richest man in the nearest town. So he obviously found a lawyer pretty quickly. Now we are at a complete loss on what to do. If this had occurred in the U.S, we would have a very solid case. But we're talking about Mexico. Does anyone know of a person or organization that may provide assistance? Will our insurance assist us with the medical expenses, and perhaps with a lawyer? Apparently a private doctor offered a discount on the surgery if we do the surgery it "without receipt."

You need to call his insurer for advice. If he has coverage in Mexico, the medical and legal should be handled by them.  If not, you will need to manage it yourself.  It will undoubtedly be infinitely cheaper to have all the medical attention taken care of in Mexico in the latter case.
