Enhanced Child Tax Credit - September payment
« on: September 20, 2021, 09:24:23 AM »
Did anyone else receive the enhanced CTC for August via direct deposit, but not for September yet?  It was supposedly released 9/15, but hasn't posted to my account even though I'm auto-enrolled and received the prior month promptly.  Strange

Edit: Looks like others experiencing the same https://www.cbsnews.com/news/child-tax-credit-september-payment-delayed-some/

I haven’t received mine either. I logged onto their portal and it is not in processing yet. Received the other two on time with no issues.

I had not gotten mine until today, but instead of being $300 like it was in July and August this time it was only $188?

No idea what is going on here

I keep getting them despite not being eligible and having gone into the IRS website to turn them off multiple times!

Well, the government is running out of funding, and the US Treasury has implemented "extraordinary measures".  Maybe this is one of them.  CNBC reported today that the government may hit the debt limit (and therefore be unable to spend money) sometime in October (next month).

There are legislative actions to both increase the debt limit and provide funding for next fiscal year (which starts 10/1, next Friday), but neither have passed yet.

Fascinating to me that the current budget requires extraordinary measures. I wonder what kind of accounting is going on behind all of this that justified these random amounts? I mean, the tax credit is for the CY but the budget runs through the FY and here we are

Oh, it was pure conjecture on my part.  The two may have nothing to do with each other, I don't really know one way or the other.

Although I did think about the fact that I still haven't received my tax refund for 2020 yet, and it could get hung up in the whole thing.  In theory, at least.

My guess is they'll eventually fund the government, although we may have a shut down for a period of time.

Understood, but fun to muse on. As a fed I'm a little privy to the hand waving that makes things work year to year but nowhere near the magicianship that the IRS has to do to keep things moving. I'm not familiar with their processes nor protocols, but I can only imagine they fly by special rules.

Sorry to hear you haven't received the return. Between everything that's come at them the last few years between TCJA and stimuli, i can only imagine a cadre of burnt out civil servants just pushing the minimum bar.

Eh, my fault initially...made a mistake on Form 8962, which kicked out a 12C letter, which I replied to, but I'm sure my correspondence is in a very long queue.

I agree that the morale there is probably fairly low with everything.

On the bright side, I'm making 3% interest on my refund, retroactive to 4/15/21.

Ok, today we received a paper check addressed to my spouse.  Turns out BOTH people need to enroll in direct deposit?!?
Oddly enough the check was also for $169.  Soooo....$169 x2

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

haha, you beat me to it. Exact same scenario here. A week ago, i got my September payment, but it was only $188.

today, my wife gets a paper check in the mail for the same amount... $188. I don't know why this amount is so random. I would have expected that it should add up to the $300 we were supposed to get.

The mystery continues.

I believe that I should have received $650/mo for 6 months. Instead, I received $0 in July, $750 in August and $938 in September. Mysterious indeed.

Same here. Direct deposit for me, paper check to spouse. I assume that at some point they decided they needed to send separate checks when there are two parents but how the amounts are determined is a mystery.

It's time for everyone's favorite game.  When will the ECTC post to your account, and how much will I get?
My streak of zero consistency continues!

It's going to be fun for everyone to reconcile all this next spring.  Sigh.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
