EAA Airventure money saving ideas?
« on: July 25, 2016, 07:01:32 PM »
I'm planning on going to Airventure in Oshkosh. It it pretty close to home, but the tickets are like $47 a piece and parking is $10. Anyone go to this regularly that has ways to save other than being an EAA member?

You actually want to try and do Oshkosh on the cheap?! I salute you, my friend. I do not believe such a thing is possible. ;)

Parachute in.   At night.

Sleep in a culvert.  In the day.

Keep an eye on the trash cans.  Before they are emptied...

My old manager used to go every year with his brother.  They would go during the middle of the week and wait until after it had been open for a while.  He said that vendors that had extra tickets would be giving them away.  He claims he never paid to get in.  This is all second hand info, ymmv.  On the other hand, if you are into aviation, it's worth the price of admission.  Just driving by Wittman field is a site to behold.

So the vendors were outside the gates giving away tickets?

That's what he claimed.  Like I said, this was all second hand info so I can't really verify that will work.

Yeah, it was a zoo and I didn't see anything like that going on. I ended up buying some things people couldn't use off craigslist. So I got a weeklong band for myself for 60, parking weekly for 15 and a single day for a friend for 30. Not exactly cheap, but for the three days I will end up going total I saved 15 on parking, about 60 on my access and 17 on my friend's. If I was paying full price I would have most likely only gone Wednesday and Saturday because those are the night shows and fireworks. I think it worked out ok.

On a side note does anyone have strategies for letting go when stuff costs more than it has any right to but it's something you really want to do and are going to do anyways? The stress of the cost kinda hampered my enjoyment of the events some.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
