I've had Geico for about a dozen years, because they have always offered me the lowest rates. I've had three claims, all not at fault, and the claims process was a major pain in the ass on a scale no other insurance company has come close to. They did, however pay up in the end and I continue to insure my car and motorcycle through them.

I've had other insurance companies for my car before, but Geico rates by far the best for me. Their phone agents are always very professional, sympathetic, efficient, and effective.Geico does the job of protecting you, and fast. Recently GEICO expand and upgrade their ridesharing policy. The features of their new ridesharing policy are also looks good.
Now we know the premiums aren't spent on paying overpriced astroturfers, this guy is so bad there's no way he's charging them.

I've had one claim (not at fault) with Progressive and they were a pleasure to deal with. Geico's rates have always been so high for me I've never considered it (~2x Progressive's).

Awesome thread.  I too could save $700/yr by switching by geico but I have stayed with USAA.  I equate the cheap price with cheap service.  I am trying to decide if it is worth the savings.

I had one not at fault accident a few years ago and USAA floated the $1000 deductible.  SOmething I know most auto insurers wont do.  This is made me loyal and hard to pull away.

As my previous 2 comments have said I have had to file claims and never have had an issue. After the last one which was ruled my fault (although very questionable) my rates actually didn't change. In fact they went down a few cents if you really want to knit pick. They were always fast, friendly, and helpful. I don't know that they would waive your deductible. But for $700 in savings a year you would almost have that deductible after one year. I'd certainly consider it. Or at least bring up the fact your USAA and see about a reduction of rates. $700 a year is quite a bit.

I've had Geico for 2 years now and I'm pretty happy.  Cheapest rate I can find (I check once a year) and didn't have any problem making a claim when we had hail damage to our cars last summer.

SO is this just another general finance forum now? We have people bragging about $85/mo insurance on a $45000 truck like it makes sense financially?
This is not even close to an MMM topic.

Let's be clear: MMM: $5000 car that gets 40mpg with $29/mo insurance.
This forum: Wah, my insurance is $85/mo on a $45000 truck that gets 13mpg with tires at $1000 a set.

+1

Forget the insurance, that truck better be used to make money (ie a work truck) or a serious face punch is in order!

I've had GEICO at $800/yr for our 1 car, and my claim experience when hit by another driver was extremely good and friendly.  They even advanced the deductible, even before they recovered from the other driver's insurance.  I didn't need that, but it was nice.

I'm with Progressive right now but, based on this thread, I'd like to get a quote from Geico.  Oddly, I can't seem to do that online or by phone.  When I plug in my zipcode, I get a message that says:

"We are unable to provide a quote online or by phone at this time. Please email us at Michigan@geico.com and provide your complete name and mailing address.  An application will be mailed to you."

When I call and give them my state, it directs me to the website.  Has anyone else seen this and, if so, did you follow through on going with a paper application?  I wonder if this means I wouldn't be able to do anything with my policy online or by phone.

I have Geico and have had 2 or 3 claims.  (one of them, I backed into a post.  The other two I was not even in the car).
Good experience every time.  My favorite part is that they have agents sitting in the auto body shops.  So you can walk in to get an estimate, and all of a sudden, you're done!  Easy peasy!

I bought the geico with $500 deductible.

$580 for the year.

Unreal.

Aaa was $1250

Progressive was $1260

Both for the same coverage.

Ill be dumping aaa after 11 years come Monday.

GEICO offers an 8% discount on Auto if you have a share of Berkshire A or B shares.

How does one best purchase one share (~$150).

I've had them for years and always liked it. As others said they are very competitive on rates and you can always get a real person. Like ALWAYS even if it's 1am on a Saturday and pouring rain and you backed into a car you didn't see in the the dark and you are 22 and practically in tears because you're exhausted and far from home .... You know hypothetically ;)
