Deposit appeared in my account that doesn't belong to me - how, andwhat do I do?

Hello,

I just received a deposit of $675 in my checking account. I looked at the check and it's made out to a remodelling/painting company and is definitely not supposed to have gone to me.

Does that sort of thing happen often? How did it happen - did the depositor just mistakenly put my bank account details in when depositing his/her check? What do I do to get it to the proper owner?

Even if you don't, they will most likely figure it out in a few days and fix it.
