Debit card rewards program
« on: February 08, 2013, 06:23:57 PM »
Use rewards credit cards for everything I can (of course paid off every month).  Have been spending between $2000 and 2250 a year at Aldi which takes only debit.  Use ING debit card, but would set an account up in another online bank if I could find one with rewards.  Thanks

There are checking accounts that come with debit card rewards out there, but the only purchases that earn points are those when using the debit card without the PIN number, basically like a credit card transaction. The financial institution doesn't benefit from you making pin based transactions.

Make X number debits to recieve X% interest with a kasasa account. If you don't hit your debits you just get a way reduced interest rate for the month. Sounds like you don't use your debit card too much so I don't know how useful one would be. If you keep a highish bank balance this may be better than CC rewards.

Thanks Crash, I'll look it and see if there is anything there I could use.  I use my debit card once a week, everything thing else goes on credit but Aldi.  Capital One is the only bank I've found so far that does offer a debit with 2% rewards-don't know if that is an intro or not.  Didn't look into it any further because the only offer it for states in which they have brick and morter-my old ING is now Capital One 360.  I called-not eligible.

The thing with debit cards is they are a direct line to your bank account.

Whereas a credit card if there are bogus charges, you have a lot more protection.

I've been burned a couple times in the past with debit, and will never use it again.

Dynasty I in general agree.  Don't have a debit card from my brick and morter. Got a card from Ing just for Aldi. Deposit $50 a week.  I just love my Aldi shopping though.
